Police on Campus

By Michael A. Baker, Bradley R. Brewer, Raymond DeBuse, Sally T. Hillsman, Murray Milner & David V. Soeiro

Police on Campus is a detailed account of the massive police actions at Columbia University in April and May of 1968. The report is based upon eye-witness accounts submitted by 337 persons, including students, faculty, physicians, and members of the press. What has emerged is a well-documented narrative of shocking gratuitous violence.

The pages that follow embody a report of enormous importance. The six authors - scholars and lawyers - have devoted many hours, stolen from other work, and the utmost care to collecting, reading and ultimately weaving into a reliable narrative every scrap of information about the police actions of Spring 1968 at Columbia. Surely, this report must be the classic of volunteer scholarship.
