Rising Scholars Postdoctoral Fellowship in Race and Society

Review of applications will begin January 16, 2023.

In conjunction with the Rising Scholars Postdoctoral Fellowship Program sponsored by the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences and the Mellon Foundation, the UVA Department of Sociology welcomes applications for a two-year Postdoctoral Fellowship in Race and Society. Scholars who received (or will receive) their Ph.D. degree between August 24, 2020 and August 24, 2023 are eligible to apply.

Race and racialization are anchoring and enduring concerns within Sociology. We welcome applications from sociologists specializing in the sociology of race, as well as from sociologists whose work exemplifies the transformation of many sociological subfields vis-à-vis the study of race and racism.  Scholars whose work centers the Black experience, historically, globally and/or in the contemporary U.S., are encouraged to apply.

Consistent with the College of Arts and Sciences’ commitment to advancing Race, Justice and Equity, we understand this postdoctoral fellowship as an opportunity to enhance the career trajectory of a scholar whose work advances our understanding of Race and Society, and whose research and teaching contributes to the vibrant intellectual community that is UVa Sociology. Underrepresented scholars are encouraged to apply.
